Philip G. Whitman Elected President of American Friends of Hebrew U.

Philip G. Whitman of New York was today elected president of the American Friends of the Hebrew University at the annual membership meeting of the organization. Ralph Wechsler of Essex Falls, N. J., was elected chairman of the board of directors, succeeding Daniel G. Ross of New York.

Mr. Ross, who served as president from 1955 to 1959 and as acting president since 1961, was elected an honorary president together with Dr. George S. Wise of New York and Mexico City, former chairman of the board of governors of the Hebrew University and a former president of the American Friends. The other honorary presidents are U.S. Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankgurter and Dr. Israel S. Wechsler of New York.

In his report to the annual membership meeting, Mr. Ross announced that 108 men and woman had become Founders of the New Campus of the Hebrew University since the Society of the Founders was established in June 1960. The Founders are contributors of $25, 000 or more to the development program of the American Friends of the Hebrew University. Mr. Whitman has been a member of the board of governors of the Hebrew University–the supreme authority of the University–for some 15 years, and has been prominently associated with the American Friends for many years. Prior to his election as president, he served as secretary and vice-president of the American Friends.
