One hundred and forty summer day camps for 7,000 school-age children, half of whom are newcomers in Israel, have been opened in Israel under a Pioneer Women-Moetzet Hapoalot program, it was announced today by Mrs. Sidney Leff, president of the Pioneer Women, an American labor Zionist group.
The camps provide hot meals, organized recreational activity, and special arts and crafts instruction for the youngsters, who range in age from 5 to 14. They also serve as a vital “training ground” for the future integration of the 3,500 immigrant children among the school children of Israel.
Mrs. Leff, who returned from a six-week stay in Israel, also announced the dedication of three new Pioneer Women-Moetzet Hapoalot day nurseries in Ramle, Pardess Katz, and Kfar Saba, and the dedication of a new wing of the Beersheba Vocational High School for Girls. The school, attended by 250 students, is administered by the Beersheba municipality and Pioneer Women-Moetzet Hapoalot.
