The Union of Jewish Communities of Czechoslovakia has voted to erect a monument in the old Jewish cemetery at Prague to honor the memories of the 280,000 Czechoslovakian Jews murdered during the Nazi holocaust, a Prague dispatch received here today reported.
At its recent conference in Prague, the report stated, the Union authorized the administration of the Jewish Museum in the Czech capital to proceed with implementation of the plans for such a monument. The Museum was instructed to initiate a competition among sculptors, architects and other artists for the choice of the most suitable memorial.
The Czech Union of Jewish Communities decided also to erect a memorial to the Jewish martyrs of the death camp at Treblinka. Contributions for both monuments will be solicited in both Eastern and Western countries.
