President Kennedy today received an appeal from the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada, urging him to intervene with the Argentine and Uruguayan Governments on the issue of resurgent anti-Semitic manifestations in those countries.
“We are deeply disturbed, ” the appeal stated, “by the outrageous attacks upon Jewish individuals and institutions which occurred in Argentina and in Uruguay, We should greatly appreciate your using your good offices with the two Governments, urging vigorous action to prevent similar attacks in the future.”
Assurances that Argentina and Uruguay are deeply concerned over those outbreaks were given here yesterday by Roberto T. Alemann, Argentinian Ambassador here, and Bautista Ochteco, Uruguayan charge d’affaires in Washington. They gave those assurances to Moses I. Socachevsky, president of the Jewish Nazi Victims Organization, and Felix Lasky, secretary, who came here from New York to protest to the envoys about anti-Semitic outbreaks in the two countries.
