A revised edition of the Jewish school population in Protestant schools in Greater Montreal was issued here today by the Canadian Jewish Congress research division. The study shows that there were 77 Jewish children in the Protestant schools here in 1877, the number increased to 14,134 in 1924, decreased to 8, 590 in 1942, and went up again to 17,887 in 1962.

This year, according to the study, Jewish children formed the majority in 18 of the 98 Protestant schools. Of these 18, only one is in the old area of Jewish settlement in this city. There were also 15 schools where, in 1962, Jewish children formed more than 20 per cent, but less than 50 per cent, of the total enrollment; of these, only two were in the old area of Jewish settlement in this city.
