Menachem Beigin, leader of Israel’s Herut party, today denounced the recent wave of anti-Semitic events in Argentina. He addressed an overflow meeting at the Buenos Aires Opera House.
Mr. Beigin declared that these incidents were not only of internal concern to each country, but were of international character as they constitute crimes under the United Nations Convention on Genocide. He called the anti-Semitic attacks “plagues,” and referred to their contagious nature. In a warning against Jewish cowardice, Mr. Beigin stressed the importance of courage in the defense of Jewish dignity, stating that Nazis are cowards who act only as long as they can do so with a feeling of impunity.
Mr. Beigin criticized Israel’s “fraternization” with Germany by the sale of arms, which he said provoked the emnity of the Eastern Bloc. Israel’s strategic situation had worsened lately according to Mr. Beigin, but he saw no cause for panic.
