Theodore Tannenwald Jr., prominent New York attorney and former Special Assistant to the United States Secretary of State, has been named chairman of the Israel Committee of the American Jewish Committee, A. M. Sonnabend, AJC president, announced here today.
Mr. Tannanwald has held various government posts since 1942 including his most recent appointment in 1961 as a member of President Kennedy’s Task Force on Foreign Assistance. In addition to a number of positions in the State Department, he has been Special Consultant to the Secretary of War, Consultant to Secretary of Defense and Assistant Director of the Mutual Security Administration.
The AJC’s Israel Committee covers a wide range of issues dealing with the Middle East. To further these endeavors, the AJC has recently established an office in Israel.
