A 500-acre land reclamation and afforestation project, named after Colonel Jacob M. and Mrs. Edith Freeman Arvey, of Chicago, was dedicated at impressive ceremonies held in the Jerusalem hills today. Colonel Arvey, one of the leading Jewish communal leaders in Chicago, and his wife were manifestly moved as the project was formally named in their honor by Dr. Yosef Burg, Minister of Social Welfare and Dr. Joseph Weitz, acting director of the Jewish National Fund.
Before Israeli dignitaries and a delegation representing Chicago Jewry, Colonel Arvey thanked the Government of Israel for dedicating the project to him and Mrs. Arvey, stating that the tribute belonged to the Chicago Jewish community whose contributions made the project possible. After the ceremonies, Col. and Mrs. Arvey were guests of honor at a reception at the headquarters of the Jewish National Fund, which has jurisdiction over the land reclamation and afforestation work in Israel.
