American Jewish Committee Urges Argentina to Act Against Anti-semitism

The American Jewish Committee urged the Argentine Government today to take “vigorous legal action” against perpetrators of anti-Semitic acts in that country. The demand was voiced by A.M. Sonnabend, president of the American Jewish Committee, following a reception here to Gen. Pedro E. Aramburu, former President of Argentina. The latter is a leading member of the recently formed United Front Against Anti-Semitism in Argentina.

Mr. Sonnabend made public a copy of a letter he had sent on behalf of the Committee to Roberto Alleman, Argentine Ambassador to the United States, declaring: “Jewish institutions in Argentina have been attacked with bombs, Molotov cocktails and machine guns. There have been a number of hoodlum incidents such as the daubing of Jewish hospitals. Unfortunately, the police investigations and actions have not been such as to reassure the Jewish community.”
