The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing reports that George Lincoln Rockwell may be a foreign agent and, if those reports are substantiated, the Department of Justice will see to it that Rockwell and his American Nazi party register as foreign agents, Senator Jacob K. Javits was informed officially here today.

Senator Javits, New York Republican, had asked the Department of Justice whether it was taking steps to require Rockwell and his Nazi group to register, in view of the fact that Rockwell was recently appointed “world leader” of National Socialists, while the British leader of that group, Colin Jordan, is serving a jail sentence in England for neo-Nazi activities.

Today, Mr. Javits received a reply from Assistant Attorney General J. Walter Yeagley, assuring him of the FBI probe and stating: “In the event this investigation should produce the required evidence, upon which action may be based, you may be sure the Department will unhesitatingly take such action, so as to effect a proper registration of Rockwell and his party. “
