Some 300 Jewish intellectuals, educators and community leaders in this country as well as a number of prominent figures from Europe and Israel will take part in a two-day conference in New York November 17 and 18 which will consider the problems and goals of Hebrew culture in the United States, it was announced here today by Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the Tarbuth Foundation for the Advancement of Hebrew Culture.
The Tarbuth Foundation, which is sponsoring the conference, was established earlier this year through initial gifts by Abraham and Jacob Goodman of New York. It aids in the promotion of Hebrew educational and cultural projects.
Guest speakers at the conference will include Abba Eban, Israel’s Minister of Education, and P. E. Gilbert, former French Ambassador to Israel. Professor Harry Wolfson, of Harvard University, and Philip Lown, president of the American Association for Jewish Education, will be honored at the conference for their contributions to Hebrew scholarship and Jewish education.
