The Jewish community of Denmark mourned today the death of Nobel Prize winner Niels Bohr whose mother was a member of the distinguished Jewish Adler family. Dr. Bohr, who was considered the world’s leading physicist, died at his home here yesterday at the age of 77.

Jewish leaders recalled that when Hitler decided to terminate his “lenient” treatment of Danish Jews under the Nazi occupation, the physicist fled with his wife to Sweden and persuaded the Swedish King to offer unconditional sanctuary to all Jewish refugees from Denmark. Dr. Bohr was an honorary member of the Weizmann Institute in Israel.
