The Israel Health Ministry disclosed today that 17 patients with malignant tumors in a Medical Center were treated with Thalidomide during the past month with no positive results, Six cancer patients were treated with the German-developed tranquilizing drug during the past three weeks “without positive or negative results, ” the Ministry added.
The new data on the testing of the drug for cancer followed earlier reports that the drug, blamed for widespread births of deformed infants among women who took it during pregnancy, had been used to achieve cures for cancer patients.
The Ministry also reported that about 10 requests had been received from abroad for supplies of the drug which is being used in Israel for research purposes under Ministry of Health control. The Ministry said that the overseas requests would not be considered until clinical information was supplied by a physician for each request.
