Herbert H. Lehman Honored As Founder of United Jewish Appeal

Herbert H. Lehman returned to action today as a volunteer worker for the United Jewish Appeal, in whose founding he played a key role a quarter of a century ago. He joined more than 100 other founders and volunteers for the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York in a “Person-to-Person” session at its headquarters. They were engaged in obtaining by telephone contributions to the UJA campaign, which is now in progress.

Samuel D. Leidesdorf, treasurer of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York, presented Mr. Lehman with a UJA Founders Award, a special plaque for those who joined in establishing the United Jewish Appeal. Undersecretary of Commerce Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jr., was another visitor to the telephone rooms at New York UJA headquarters during the day. As a former chairman of New York’s Non-Sectarian Committee for the UJA, Mr. Roosevelt was presented with a medallion citing his services to the campaign.
