Officials of the Denver Jewish Community Center and of the Denver Rabbinical Association announced here that a series of meetings would be held to develop a mutually acceptable solution to differences over opening of the Center on the Sabbath.
At the first meeting of representatives of the two organizations, Sanford Solender, executive vice-president of the Jewish Welfare Board, and Rabbi Aryeh Lev, director of the JWB chaplaincy division, attended as guests.
The meetings were agreed on after the Center, bowing to the wishes of the rabbinical group, canceled plans for a poll of members as to whether the Center should be open on the Sabbath. Mr. Solender discussed at the initial joint meeting the experiences of other Centers with the problem, particularly in Detroit, Cleveland and Chicago.
It was agreed that the first step should be creating a climate of harmony, common understanding and common objectives. For that goal, the broad aspects of Center-synagogue relationships will be studied at future meetings, as well as specific questions of Center Sabbath programs.
