Rabbi Uri Miller was installed today as president of the Synagogue Council of America in ceremonies at the Carnegie International Center. In his acceptance address, Rabbi Miller outlined the “specific tasks” confronting the religious forces of American Jewry, emphasizing that one of the “deep concerns” of the Jewish community was the fate of Soviet Jewry.

Sydney Yates, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, the principal speaker, said that the United States delegation was “cognizant of the contributions that organized religion in the United States can make towards the spread and implementation of human rights and peace ideologies.”
