Some 250 clerical and professional employees of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of Greater New York returned to work today after an agreement on a new two-year contract ended a strike which began last Friday.
The chief issue in the dispute–a demand by the employees for a union shop–was settled by a provision in the agreement for maintenance of membership and irrevocable check off. The contract also provides for salary increases of $400 this year and $300 next year for fund-raisers and $4 per week this year and $3 per week next year for clerical workers. Present wages of fund-raisers range from $4,820 to $10,000 a year and for clerical employees from $50 to $120 per week.
