A three-year contract on behalf of the Zim Israel Navigation Co. Ltd., of Haifa and the Associated Legislative (Orthodox) Rabbinate of America, Inc., was signed here today to provide for rabbinical supervision of kosher facilities and Jewish religious functions aboard the Zim Lines’ new flagship, the 23,000 gross ton SS Shalom which enters trans-Atlantic passenger service next spring.

A delegation representing the rabbinical group flew to St. Nazaire, France, following the signing, to inspect the SS Shalom, now in the final stages of construction at the yards of Chantiers d L’Atlantique. As a result of their inspection, they have certified that the kitchen and dining arrangements of the new liner “are in accordance with the full requirements of kashrut.” In addition to her kosher kitchens, the SS Shalom will have a separate kitchen for the preparation of non-kosher international cuisine.
