Henry Schacht, Noted Actor and Teacher, Dead; Played on Screen Stage

Funeral services were held here today for Henry Schacht, well known actor on the English and Yiddish stage and former high school teacher of languages, who died this weekend at the age of 77. Mr. Schacht, who was known professionally as Henry Sharp, also appeared in leading roles in films.

A member of a theatrical family which immigrated from Russia, he made his first appearance on Broadway in 1914. In 1921 he played on the Yiddish stage with the prominent Yiddish actor Boris Thomashevsky in the production.” Hatikvah” as guest artist. The Broadway productions in which he appeared included “Arsenic and Old Lace.” “On Borrowed Time,” “Oh, Ment Oh, Women!” The films in which he played included “A Song to Remember,” “A Face in the Crowd,” and others.
