The United Jewish Appeal Women’s Division inaugurated its 26th annual campaign with gifts totaling $650,000 at a luncheon meeting attended by 150 of the division’s leaders today at the Regency Hotel.
Edward M.M. Warburg, who was host at the luncheon, reported on the rescue, relief and resettlement programs financed by UJA, and indicated that the 1964 drive would concentrate on helping 750,000 persons in 31 countries around the world.
Mr. Warburg called for support of UJA’s migration program, which is continuing to bring substantial numbers of immigrants to Israel, the United States, and other free lands. He also emphasized the need for funds to aid in the economic and cultural absorption of tens of thousands of immigrants in France and Israel.
A feature of the luncheon was the posthumous presentation to Mrs. David M. Levy of the UJA’s Chairmen’s Award “for outstanding service and devotion to the cause of the United Jewish Appeal.” The award was presented to Mrs. Levy’s son, Richard Deutsch. During her lifetime, Mrs. Levy was president of the Citizens Committee for Children of New York City, and was a founder and one of the foremost leaders of the UJA.
