Jack Cotton, a prominent British- Jewish philanthropist and communal worker, and one of the world’s largest real estate developers, died here this weekend of a heart attack at the age of 61, A member of the British Chief Rabbi’s Emergency Committee during and after the Second World War, he spent time in the United States at that time organizing Jewish immigration to Palestine.
Born in Birmingham, England, Mr. Cotton, an Orthodox Jew, went into real estate at the age of 21, and amassed a fortune. An active member of numerous charitable associations and a life-long Zionist, he was a supporter of many Jewish causes, An active member of the British section of the World Jewish Congress, Mr. Cotton provided endowments for the chair of architecture and fine arts at the Hebrew University, and for a research project at the Weizmann Institute.
