Jewish Culture Congress Protests Soviet Book on Jews

The World Congress for Jewish Culture protested sharply today to Soviet authorities against the publication of the anti-Semitic book, “Judaism Without Embellishment,” demanding that distribution of the book be halted, and that those responsible for its production and dissemination be investigated.

The protest was sent by the WJC to Anatoly F. Dobrynin, Soviet Ambassador in Washington, and to the Soviet Writers Union in Moscow. At the same time, the Congress demanded that Soviet Jews be granted full rights to pursue Jewish culture, teach the Yiddish language, issue Jewish publications, newspapers and other literature, and carry on distinct Jewish communal activities of the type granted to other nationalities in the USSR.
