Details of the itinerary and agenda of Premier Levi Eshkol’s forthcoming visit to Washington, where he will confer with President Johnson during a three-day stay in the capital, were completed here today. The full program was worked out during a meeting here of Myer Feldman, President Johnson’s chief legal com-sel, with high Foreign Office officials. Walworth Barbour, United States Ambassador to Israel, attended the meeting, Mr. Eshkol’s visit is to begin June 1.
It was indicated that Israel’s defense needs and the economic burdens these problems create for Israel will be one of the major issues which the Premier will raise in his talks with the President. Other topics will be the threat of the growing military build-up by Egypt, including the introduction of rockets into the Middle East military situation, and the problem of preserving the area’s balance of power.
The Premier also is expected to discuss with the President continuation of United States aid, and United States-Israel cooperation in the desalination of sea water by use of nuclear energy; Mr. Eshkol will also confer with a number of Cabinet members during his stay in Washington.
The visit is expected to last for 10 days, during which the Premier also will visit military installations, including the center where Israeli military technicians are being trained in the use of the Hawk supersonic ground-to-air missiles of the type which the United States has agreed to sell to Israel.
The Premier will also visit New York, Chicago, and the West Coast, meeting Jewish leaders of those sections. He is expected to visit United Nations Headquarters when he comes to New York.
