The free nations of the world, led by the United States and Canada, were urged to remonstrate officially with the Soviet Government against the anti-Jewish discriminations in the Soviet Union.
The appeal was contained in a resolution adopted unanimously by the nearly 1,000 delegates at the 35th annual convention of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, the national association of men’s groups of conservative Jewish congregations, held here at the Concord Hotel. The delegates represent 70,000 members in 343 men’s clubs and brotherhoods in conservative synagogues in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
The resolution noted that anti-Jewish discrimination in Russia was “nothing less than spiritual genocide” and was “another way of accomplishing Hitler’s program in Europe” with the difference being “instead of Hitler’s practice of physical extermination, the Soviet Government is using its power to bring about spiritual death through eliminating every means by which Judaism could be maintained in that country.”
