The American Jewish Press Association, meeting here at its 22nd annual convention re-elected Morris J. Janoff, publisher of the Jewish Standard, Jersey City, N.J., as president for his second term.
Other officers elected were: Albert W. Golomb, Jewish Chronicle, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Lee Neusner, Jewish Ledger, Hartford, Conn,; Martin Korik, Jewish Record, Atlantic City, vice-presidents; Leo H. Frisch, American Jewish World, Minneapolis-St. Paul, honorary vice-president; Jimmy Wisch, Texas Jewish Post, Ft. Worth, secretary and Elias R. Jacobs, Buffalo Jewish Review, treasurer.
Named to the executive board were: Joseph Cummins, B’nai B’rith Messenger, Los Angeles; Albert Bloom, Jewish Chronicle, Pittsburgh; Conrad Isenberg, Jewish Civic Leader, Worcester, Mass. The Canadian Jewish Chronicle in Montreal was admitted to membership. The Association congratulated Jacque Back upon the 30th anniversary of the Jewish Observer of Nashville; and Mrs. Lee Neusner on the forthcoming 35th anniversary of the Connecticut Jewish Ledger.
The Association went on record as opposing in principle the so-called Becker amendment now before Congress and other amendments and resolutions which would alter or circumvent the Supreme Court decision forbidding prayers in public schools; and that the Senate be urged to ratify speedily the Genocide Convention in the United Nations; that Congress be urged to complete passage of an effective civil rights bill to assure all Americans their historic human rights without regard to race, creed or color; and pledging its increasing efforts for the alleviation and the elimination of discriminatory restrictive treatment of Soviet Jews.
