More than $500,000 was raised at the 1964 United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York Dinner sponsored by the National Jewish Welfare Board as a tribute to the Jewish military chaplaincy. Some 300 guests were addressed by Rabbi Herbert A. Friedman, executive vice-chairman of the United Jewish Appeal and a former United States Army chaplain during World War II.
