The anti-Israeli mural in the Jordanian pavilion at the World’s Fair was still in place today, despite protests and in the face of a statement by Mayor Robert F. Wagner last week that he had requested the removal of the offensive painting. A spokesman for the World’s Fair said that no action for the removal of the mural had been taken.
Two protests on the issue were voiced here today. James H. Scheuer, chairman of the executive committee of the New York Metropolitan Council of the American Jewish Congress, protested against the Jordanian display to Charles Poletti, vice-president of the Fair in charge of international relations, stating that the mural was intended to arouse “national hostilities,” and demanding its removal. At the same time, representatives of the Arab League and a group calling itself the “Arab Palestine Delegation” wired Mayor Wagner, accusing him of being “pro-Zionist.”
