Dr. Chaim Shoskes, well-known Jewish author, economist and since 1939 a member of the staff of the Yiddish newspaper, Day-Jewish Journal, died here today. He was 73.
Born in Bialystok, Poland, he obtained degrees from the University of Kharkov, Russia, and the University of Brussels. Belgium. He was manager of the Jewish Peoples Bank at Kharkov from 1917 to 1920; inspector for the Polish Cooperative Bank in 1921-23, and, after coming to the United States in 1939, honorary consul of Poland in this country in 1940-41. He joined the staff of the Day-Jewish Journal shortly after his arrival here, and has traveled throughout the world, writing reports about issues affecting Jews and Israel.
He was also for a time an executive of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. He was the holder of many awards, and the author of many books. His latest work, “Jews Throughout the World,” is scheduled for publication in Yiddish and in Hebrew within the next month. Funeral services were scheduled for Friday.
