An assurance that the provincial government of Quebec is planning to introduce a bill outlawing discrimination in employment was received here today by officials of the Canadian Jewish Congress. The promise that the Quebec Legislature would receive a Fair Employment Practices bill was sent to the Congress by the office of Quebec Prime Minister Jean Lesage.
At the same time, progress toward elimination of employment bias was reported here today by the Ontario Human Rights Commission. The Commission notified the CJC that it had signed an agreement with the Association of Professional Placement Agencies and Consultants here. In the agreement 15 members of the association pledged the elimination of all hiring practices under which applicants suffer discrimination on the grounds of race, religion or color. Officials of the Canadian Jewish Congress said the agreement was of “historic” significance.
