Alliance Israelite to Open Three Jewish Secondary Schools in France

The Alliance Israelite Universelle has decided to open three Jewish secondary schools in major provincial centers in France where a large influx of North African Jewish refugees has taken place, it was announced here today at the organization’s annual conference. The new schools will comprise part of the Alliance plan to provide France with a closely knit network of Jewish institutions of learning.

The three new secondary schools, which will be located in Nice, Marseilles and Lyons, will begin operation in time for the forthcoming school term. The more than 200 delegates at the conference under the chairmanship of Prof, Rene Cassin approved the organization’s plans.

In a report on the international activities of the organization, it was noted that the largest number of schools operated by Alliance are located in Morocco where 52 Alliance schools serve more than 13, 000 students. There are 15 Alliance schools in Iran with 6, 000 students and ether schools in Israel, Tunisia and Lebanon.
