The Tel Aviv District Court today added another year to the one-year sentence imposed by Magistrates Court on Yehuda Spiegel, the former Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health who was found guilty of taking a bribe in connection with new hospital construction here.

In his appeal from the sentence handed down by the Magistrates Court, Mr. Spiegel had claimed that the money he received was not a bribe but a contribution requested from engineers, architects and contractors for the construction of a yeshiva in the south. The District Court found him guilty, however, and imposed a severer sentence.

Mr. Spiegel, who may now appeal to the High Court, is a prominent leader of the National Religious Party, He is next in line on the party’s Knesset list if any member resigns or dies.
