The remains of Vladimir Jabotinsky, late founder of the Zionist Revisionist movement, and of his wife Yohanna, will be exhumed tomorrow from their graves in Farmingdale, N.Y., for reinterment in Israel, it was announced here today by the National Committee for Jabotinsky Memorial.
The remains will be brought to Riverside Memorial, Amsterdam Avenue and 76th Street, where the coffins will be on view Sunday. From there, a funeral procession will take place on Monday to the Young Israel Synagogue, 15 blocks away, where special memorial prayers will be rendered by a choir of the Cantors Association of New York.
The remains will be flown by El Al Israel Airlines on Monday night to Paris, where Israel Premier Levi Eshkol, who is now in France on a 12 day visit, will meet the plane at Orly Airport. A special memorial service will be held at the airport. The plane will then proceed to Israel.
Premier Eshkol today was lauded at a press conference here by Dr. Eri Jabotinsky, the son of the late Zionist-Revisionist leader. Prof. Jabotinsky said that Premier Eshkol’s decision to reinter Jabotinsky was taken despite the fact that the Israeli Premier and the Herut leader were bitter adversaries in the past. When asked if he was satisfied with the arrangements made by the Israel Government for the re-burial, he replied: “The arrangements satisfy the requirements of my father’s will.”
Major Zionist and Jewish organizations will participate in the funeral procession which will depart from the Riverside Chapel at 3:30 p. m. on Monday. The government of Israel will be represented at the memorial service by Israel Ambassador Avraham Harman. In the event that Ambassador Harman who is at present in Israel, is unable to return in time, Israel will be represented by Ambassador Katriel Kats, Israel’s Consul General in New York.
