Jordan Opens Fire on Israeli Fields; First Attack in Several Years

An Israeli border policeman was killed and an Israeli tractor driver was wounded this afternoon when Jordanians opened fire against Israeli field workers on the border. This was the first Jordanian attack against Israel in this area in several years.

(At the United Nations, Israel’s permanent representative, Ambassador Michael S. Comay, requested Secretary-General U Thant, and his principal Undersecretary, Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, to invoke U. N. influence to halt the series of Syrian aggressions of the last week. Israel also circulated a letter to all U. N. delegations, detailing the latest Syrian aggressions.)
