Bavarian Minister of Education Resigns; Justified Nazi Laws on Jews

Prof; Theodor Maunz resigned today as Bavarian Education Minister after being sharply criticized by Bavarian newspapers for pro-Nazi articles he wrote during the war; He had been Minister for seven years.

He had been accused of having acted as “the devil’s jurist” in writing articles, as a Munich University law professor, justifying the Nazi laws against German Jews. After the charges were published, Bavarian Premier Alfons Coopel ordered an examination of all of his legal writings, Maunz had been president of the Ministers of Education of the German States before becoming the Bavarian Education Minister;
