A British resident of Egypt will be tried by an Egyptian court on charges of violating that country’s regulations forbidding any resident from having any financial dealings with Israeli commercial companies or foreign companies affiliated with them, it was reported here today from Cairo.
The British citizen, Maj. Thomas Winston Wallace, 71, who is currently in Bonn, is a member of the board of directors of a company known as Cyprus Plantation of Limasso, whose chairman was identified as a Mr. Ambache, an Israeli citizen.
Major Wallace, who has lived in Cairo for 40 years, said here today that the company is Cypriot, and that he was not responsible for the election of Ambache as chairman. He said he had not yet decided whether he would return to Cairo to face the charges, but that he was concerned for his wife who was still there. If convicted, he faces a possible long prison sentence and a heavy fine.
