Charles Rothschild, president of the New Jersey Council of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, called on that regional body here today to establish a social action committee to provide adequate machinery to cope with several critical questions of concern in New Jersey. Addressing a three-day conference of the Council, Mr. Rothschild said that, without such a committee, the Reform temple group was unable to “work side by side with our co-religionists and others in the community in actively carrying into action the moral and ethical imperatives of our Judaism.”

In another address at the conference, Rabbi Jay Kaufman, vice-president of the UAHC, criticized both President Johnson and Sen. Goldwater for their failure to commit the future national Administration to a program of worldwide nuclear disarmament.
