A dozen pickets, identified as representing the Action Committee on American-Arab Relations, picketed today the Manhattan headquarters of both New York Senatorial candidates–incumbent Republican Sen. Kenneth B. Keating, and his Democratic opponent, Robert F. Kennedy.
The pickets bore signs which stated: “We oppose Keating, Kennedy, Anti-Semitism and Zionism.” The last word was heavily under scored. The pickets also passed out literature attacking both candidates. One sheet declared: “If there were two million Arabs in New York, instead of two million Zionist Jews, the Senator would have praised the Arabs and blasted Israel and the Zionists.” Another sheet was headlined; “K.K.K. Keating and Kennedy for Knesset.” The text asserted that “the two candidates do not love the Jews any more than they hate the Arabs.” The copy also said that “the clamor for the ‘Jewish’ vote represents a disrespect for the 80 percent of the voters of New York State” and “it is an insult to the intelligence and loyalty of the American Jews, as it gives the impression they are more concerned with Israel than with the United States.”
