Plans to establish the Saul Kaplun Institute of Applied Mathematics and Space Physics as Tel Aviv University in Israel, at an initial cost of $258, 000 were announced here today by Morris J. Kaplun, a New York philanthropist, at a reception held in his honor by the American Friends of Tel Aviv University. Dr. George S. Wise, president of the University, presided at the event.
Mr. Kaplun, who has long been active on behalf of many philanthropic causes both in Israel and the United States, is establishing the Institute to perpetuate the work of his late son, the eminent scientist, Dr. Saul Kaplun, who was a member of the faculty of the California Institute of Technology.
Dr. Kaplun’s work in the field of fluid mechanics attracted international attention. He developed new methods of experimentation and research which played a major role in the recent development of applied mathematics.
