A four day Conference of the World Union of General Zionists will convene in Israel on the eve of the World Zionist Congress, it was announced today by Dr. Emanuel Neumann, president of the World Union, on his return from Israel. The opening session, on December 26, to be held at the ZOA House in Tel Aviv, will be addressed by Dr. Nahum Goldmann, president of the WZO. The sessions will be attended by 150 delegates from North and South America, the State of Israel, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
In making this announcement Dr. Neumann stressed that the Conference “will crystallize the position of the World Union of General Zionists on the issues confronting the Zionist Congress.” The decisions which will be taken at the Conference,” he said, “will have an important bearing on the outcome of the Zionist Congress since the delegates of the World Union of General Zionists will constitute the second largest grouping at the Congress.”
Dr. Neumann reported that in a series of meetings of the executive of the World Union, which took place during the past fortnight, a substantial consensus was reached on several major questions of Zionist policy, including: the attitude of the World Zionist Organization toward the problems of Diaspora Jewry; effective action to counter the anti-Israel and anti-Jewish propaganda emanating from Arab States; broadening the base of the World Zionist Organization; intensification of its cultural and educational activities in the Diaspora; and measures for deepening Zionist consciousness among the youth of Israel.
