One Israeli was killed and another wounded when Jordanians suddenly opened fire today in a sector of the Jordan-Israeli border that had been free of fighting for a long time.
The shooting occurred in central Israel, near Kibbutz Yad Hanna. Field workers from the kibbutz were in one of their fields, when the Jordanians opened fire without warning, felling one of the workers. As other members of the settlement rushed to aid their stricken comrade, the Jordanians fired again, wounding a second man. The first man hit died in a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, 15 Israeli officers and enlisted men, including four killed in action, were cited today for their “gallant stand” during the Syrian attacks last November 13 in the Dan area, which escalated into a tank and warplane clash. Three of the 15 are still hospitalized.
