The Union of Resistance of Belgian Jews presented today to the West German Ambassador in Belgium a resolution strongly protesting the refused of the West German Government to extend the effective date of the statute of limitations for murder past May 8.
The resolution, addressed to the West German Government, said Belgian Jews were deeply shocked at the prospect of Nazi criminals escaping prosecution, asserting that the crimes of the Nazis could not be equated with common law crimes. It stressed that for moral, political and legal reasons, the application of the statute was “unthinkable.” Copies of the protest were sent to Foreign Minister Paul Henri Spaak and to leaders of the principal political parties in Belgium.
