The Jewish Colonization Association has signed an agreement with the Jewish Agency providing for a joint venture in which two agricultural settlements of 60 farm units each will be established in the Biranit area of Israel’s Galilee region.
This was announced here today at the annual meeting of the JCA Council at which Sir Henry d’ Avigdor Goldsmid was re-elected president and Rene Mayer of Frence and Max Gottschalk of Belgium were named vice-presidents.
In approving the annual budget for the Association’s work in various countries, the Council provided for continued aid to projects already established by the JCA by means of credits and funds for short-term farming loans and the financing of new construction.
Following a proposal by V. Girmounsky, director general of the organization who recently visited South America, the Council approved a number of measures concerning colonization work in Argentina and Brazil. Further credits were voted for the speeding up of integration of recent immigrants, for the upkeep of vocational courses in Rio de Janeiro and in the region of JCA colonies in Argentina.
The Council also voted to renew the collaboration between the JCA and Hias in the field of assistance to Jewish migrants which was carried out in the years between the two world wars.
