A prominent Pennsylvania Jew, who was described as “one of the greatest collectors of Washington manuscripts in the United States,” this weekend presented a letter written by Washington from his West Point headquarters in 1779, to the library of the United States Military Academy. The donor, Sol. Feinstone, of Washington’s Crossing, Pa., presented the letter in ceremonies to Gen. James B. Lampert, superintendent of the Academy.
Born in Lida, Lithuania, Mr. Feinstone came to the United States in 1902 and worked in a garment shop on Manhattan’s lower East Side. After succeeding in various fields of technology and business, Mr. Feinstone devoted his full time to American history and amassed the famous collection of Washington documents.
