Showman Billy Rose’s collection of 105 pieces of sculpture, which he has donated to the National Museum of Israel in Jerusalem, was packed today for shipment to Israel. The collection, valued at more than $1,000,000, will be housed in the Billy Rose Art Gardens at the Museum which will be opened May 11.
Mr. Rose, who began his collection about 25 years ago, said he had decided to give it to Israel “because it is hungrier for culture than any other country in the world.” He said he also planned to leave to Israel a collection of 20 paintings, if he finds that Israel is interested in 18th century painters, including Gainsborough, Turner, Romney and Reynolds.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
