American women have failed to take a strong enough role in the American civil rights struggle, Mrs. Martin Steinberg, president of the women’s division of the American Jewish Congress, today told 600 delegates at the opening session of the group’s national biennial convention here.
She said women could do a lot more “in those areas that concern us most–our children, our neighborhoods, our schools where “there are great gaps between the promise of equality and the reality of discrimination.” She also said her division was deeply concerned by Soviet anti-Semitism and was seeking action on ratifications of the genocide treaty.
