The Detroit Allied Jewish Campaign for 1965 was formally opened last night with a dinner at the Jewish Center, at which advance gifts of $4,212,640 were announced toward the minimum goal of $5,000,000.
William Avrunin, executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation, and campaign co-chairmen Irwin Green and Sol Eisenberg, expressed confidence that the goal would be exceeded by the time the campaign closes next month. The 300 volunteer workers attending the dinner also heard addresses by Max M. Fisher, national chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, and Hyman Safran, Federation president.
