Three Orthodox Jewish leaders expressed gratitude to President Johnson for passing the education aid bill, at a White House reception tendered by the President yesterday in honor of congressional and civic leaders who helped passage of this act.
Rabbi Morris Sherer, executive vice-president of Agudath Israel of America, Moses I. Feuerstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, and Amos Bunim, chairman of Torah Umesorah, told the President that the Orthodox Jewish community is indebted to him for passing an education bill which includes some forms of aid to students of religious schools.
Rabbi Sherer declared that the White House reception, in which educational leaders of all faiths participated, was “a clear indication that the American public has granted recognition to the partnership that exists between public and private schools in shaping the American future.” He called upon those groups who had previously opposed this legislation to “bow to the will of the consensus of the American public as expressed by the law passed by Congress with overwhelming majority, and joint forces to help the implementation of the new education law.”
