A gift at $500, 000, half of which will cover the costs of constructing a new building and the rest to form a permanent endowment for maintaining the building, was given today to Brandeis University. The donor was Harry Pearlman, of New York.
According to Dr. Abram L. Sachar, president of Brandeis, Mr. Pearlman has designated half of his gift for the construction of a teaching center in mathematics, while $250, 000 will provide the money to maintain the structure. Dr. Sachar noted that, with maintenance of new buildings provided by donors, “Brandeis could release more of its resources for academic progress, faculty salaries and student scholarships.”
Mr. Pearlman, a Fellow of the University since 1960, is also honorary chairman of the board of directors of the Jewish Hospital in New York, a member of the executive board of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, vice-president of the Jewish Culture Foundation of New York University, and a trustee of both Temple Rodeph Sholom in New York and Temple Emanuel in Miami Beach.
