Two Russian Jews, a violinist and a director, were among the 21 winners of Lenin Prizes announced yesterday by Tass, the official Soviet press agency, to mark Lenin’s birthday.
The violinist was Lecrid Kogan, the director was Yuri Zavadsky, who won an art award for his direction of a play, “Masquerade.” The awards, each worth 10, 000 rubles ($11, 000), are given annually in art, literature and science as the Communist equivalent of the Nobel prizes.
