A petition bearing 500 names of residents of East Toronto, demanding the ouster of three Nazis from the house in the area they purchased as headquarters for their newly proclaimed Canadian Nazi party, was presented today to City Controller William Dennison.
Police meanwhile were posted at the house on a 24-hour daily basis to prevent a recurrence of an attack by residents who on Sunday night besieged the three Nazis in the house, broke almost every window and left a hangman’s noose on the door. The attackers were all residents of the Anglo-Saxon working class neighborhood.
The petition described the Nazis as a public nuisance. Controller Dennison, declaring that the use of the residence as a headquarters violates a zoning by-law barring club offices or military academies on the street, said he would present the petition at the next meeting of the City Council. The real estate firm which sold the house to the three Nazis said that final papers for the transaction had not been signed.
